The only thing that bugs me a little about PHP scripts is that updating them can be a bugger, so I found this for Wordpress you might find useful: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/ It pretty much handles the upgrading of your installation to the latest version.
